Sub project manager; Norwegian ERTMS Programme


Sub project management for establishing the ERTMS Test lab for the Norwegian ERTMS Programme; on behalf of Bane NOR. The test lab will be the joint lab for integration testing of trackside; TMS and onboard systems and the Bane NOR delivered GSM-R; transmission and OAM-systems. In addition the test lab will be used during GA/SA acceptance tests and other testing as required. The ProRail AS scope is to manage the development; integration and installation of the test lab. Part of the scope will also be testing of the functionality and operation of the lab equipment during the first test phases after commissioning of the lab. After commissioning of the lab; the role will be ERTMS Test lab facility manager / ESC Test facility manager for the rollout Project. As part of the assignment ProRail AS also participates during the ERTMS Test line; full scale operational tests; test strategies; review of test plans and test cases and development of the technical and operational training centre.

Signalling engineering; Hauerseter freight terminal


The scope of the project is to present possible solutions for establishing a freight terminal for timber and mixed transport on Hauerseter station on the Hovedbanen line. ProRail AS scope is complete management and engineering of the signalling part of the project. The engineering will be done according to the Norwegian signalling engineering process from Bane NOR.

Signalling Oslo S; EPC Railway Systems Follobanen


InfraNord Norge won the Railway System contract for Oslo S with the scope to engineer; install; test and commission all permanent adaptions of Oslo Central station for the new Follobanen double track line. Track works; catenary; telecom; low voltage; high voltage and signalling systems are included in the scope. ProRail AS scope is engineering of the signalling system for procurement and installation; project and site management for the signalling subproject; sub-contracting of installation contractors; installation check out and function control of the signalling system. The NSB-77 relay interlocking will be modified and will border the new Thales class-B interlocking at the new entry signal for Oslo S in the new Follobanen tunnel. The project scope will be commissioned during several phases; ending in 2022 with commissioning of the complete Follobanen line. The project requires high capacity of personnel with signalling certifications from Bane NOR.

Site management on behalf of Thales during installation of the new class-B signalling system as part of the SignAn frame agreement. First phase was a rebuild of the NSI-63 relay interlocking at Ski station. Second phase is installation of the new computer based Thales interlocking on Ski station. Third phase is installation of the new Thales interlocking on the new double track Follobanen line; with planned commissioning in 2022. Follow up of installation contractors NJD AS and NRC Rail AS; planning; clarifications and coordination towards Bane NOR and the other contractors are main focus areas. Site Manager nationwide modifications of the ATC-system


Site management on behalf of Jernbaneverket for the nationwide modifications of the Norwegian legacy ATP-system ATC ("Kryssingbarriere"). The scope of work also included participation during several shutdowns all over Norway and function control of the affected signalling systems. Follow up of multiple installation contractors were a daily part of the project. Also some engineering tasks were included during periods with lack of resources within the client organization.

ERTMS support team ØØL


ERTMS on call support service as part of the Jernbaneverket 1. and 2. line signalling support for the ERTMS installations on Østfoldbanen Østre linje the first year after commissioning of the Norwegian ERTMS Pilot. Included telephone support during failures of the system and also on site emergency repair services during more severe failures. Part of the scope was to represent Bombardier during maintenance follow up meetings and user group meetings with train operator personnel and dispatchers. In 2018 the scope included development and execution of 3 training courses in the Bombardier Interflo 450 system for signalling personnel from Jernbaneverket; both signalling technicians; test leaders and system responsible's.

Feasibility study; Freight hub for the Trondheim area


The project was a feasibility study of possible adaptions of the NSI-63 relay interlocking on Trondheim station on the Dovrebanen line; for establishing a terminal which could serve as a freight hub for the entire region. Main focus area was necessary modifications of the signalling system for achieving 600m. train length. The conclusion was quickly found that no issues for the signalling system could be identified.

Norwegian ERTMS-pilot Østfoldbanen Østre linje


The overall project scope was to establish the first ERTMS-line in Norway on behalf of Jernbaneverket; including a completely new signalling system; traffic management system; adaption of operational rules; maintenance preparations and training. ProRail AS scope was project management from contract award until the approval of the SRS; including Norwegian functionality (December 2012). After JBV approval of the SRS; the scope was project management responsibility for all activities in Norway and necessary participation in the activities; i.e.: Complete site management scope; follow up of installation sub-contractor NJD AS; part of the test teams doing start-up and function control of the sub-systems; commissioning responsibility for the axle counter system and the hand held terminal system; establishing maintenance requirements; safety responsibility and test leader onboard for all test and commissioning activities on site. After commissioning in August 2015; the ProRail AS scope was follow up of system performance and issues; establishing operational work arounds and participation in installation; test and commissioning of updates of the system with Jernbaneverket approved "Sluttkontrollør F".

Reference Sheet Norwegian ERTMSpilot line Østfoldbanen Østre Linje


Østfoldbanen Østre Linje (ØØL) is an 80 km. long line through the inner parts of Østfold, from Ski to Sarpsborg. The Project was responsible for implementing the new European signalling system ERTMS for the first time in Norway. The ERTMS system on ØØL was commissioned in August 2015. The project comprised:
  • Establishment and testing of new traffic safety regulations for ERTMS lines
  • Rebuilding and upgrading of 5 stations
  • Engineering and installation of new ERTMS signalling systems at 7 stations, 17 level crossings and automatic level transition on 2 adjacent stations
  • Training of technical and operational personnel
  • Technical and operational testing of the system with ERTMS-equipped trains
prorail AS Contribution in the project (April 2011- march 2018) Bombardier Transportation RCS AB signed a contract with Jernbaneverket (now Bane NOR) on total system responsibility for design, engineering, installation, testing and commissioning of the new ERTMS system. ProRail AS was subcontracted by Bombardier already in the bid phase and contributed with the following:
  • Responsibility for installation and contract execution during the bid phase and contract negotiations with customer.
  • Project management on behalf of Bombardier from contract award to customer acceptance of the SRS. This phase included the establishment of administrative routines, system design, engineering of the system and start-up of the installation.
  • Project management and site management for the activities in Norway following customer acceptance of the SRS. This phase included installation, testing, commissioning, operational testing, training, establishment of the maintenance organization, establishment of spare part storage, training, following up of operational status of the system after commissioning.
  • On board test and safety responsibility for all test train activities: Training of drivers, type testing of OBU’s, trackside commissioning, full scale operational test, presentation and marketing etc. adding up to 120 days of test train activities.
  • Test and commissioning of various ERTMS subsystems with personnel authorizes as “sluttkontrollør F” for the ERTMS system.
  • Participation in ERTMS support team together with customer after commissioning – On call duty, troubleshooting, error correction and customer support.
  • Preparation and execution of rehearsal courses for customer signalling personnel (“sikkerhetskontrollør”, “sluttkontrollør F” and system specialists).

Tender for the Norwegian National Implementation of ERTMS


Part of Bombardier Transportation core bid team during the tender process and negotiations with Bane NOR for the Norwegian National Implementation of ERTMS. ProRail AS was responsible for the roll-out planning; installation; migration and test part of the trackside tender. Participated also in the track-side commissioning part and in the training part of both trackside and onboard. Important focus areas were lessons learned from the Norwegian ERTMS Pilot; logistics for deliveries to installation subcontractors; negotiations with installation subcontractors and electronic system for follow up of installation check lists; test records and related documentation.

Site manager signalling SSG Sandnes-Stavanger


Site management on behalf of Jernbaneverket on resignalling of the section Sandnes-Stavanger/Ganddal freight terminal on the line Sørlandsbanen. The project was the first deployment line in the Norwegian class-B signalling frame agreement SignAn. Scope of work included follow up of signalling system supplier Thales AS and installation subcontractor Eltel Networks AS. In addition the scope included engineering management and sub-project management of railway systems contractor InfraNord AS for the necessary updates of other railway systems (i.e. tracks; catenary; point heating). In some of the project phases also installation check-out and function control was included both of the new signalling system and the legacy NSI-63 relay interlocking. The work was done by personnel with Jernbaneverket signalling certifications.

SSG Sandnes – Stavanger was the first work order of the Norwegian signalling frame agreement for electronic class-B interlockings - SignAn. Scope of the Project was to commission a new interlocking for the (Klepp) – Stavanger section of the Sørlands-banen line. The Project also had the responsibility to get the new IL approved internally and by the Norwegian Railway Authority (“Statens Jernbanetilsyn”). The project comprised.:
  • Responsible for follow-up of supplier for Generic Approval of Thales IL ESTW L90 5.
  • Installation and commissioning of Thales IL (Interlocking) at Ganddal Freight Terminal
  • Installation and commissioning of Thales IL at 5 stations and 4 block posts.
  • Finalize the adaptions of other railway systems necessary for the commissioning (i.e. track works, catenary works, low voltage works).
  • Training of technical and operational personnel
  prorail AS Contribution in the project (may 2012- march 2018): Thales signed a contract with Jernbaneverket (now Bane NOR) on total system responsibility for design, engineering, installation, testing and commissioning of the new IL. ProRail contributed with the following:

Reference Sheet UHN Holm - Nykirke


On the Vestfoldbanen line, Jernbaneverket built a new double track section between Holm and Nykirke. In the northern part, there was an interface to the existing double track section on Sande, and in the south the new line ended on Nykirke station with interface towards single track towards Tønsberg. Total length of the new double track was 14.2 km. A total of 12.4 km. of the line was built in a tunnel comprising Holmestrand station and adjacent line sections. The signalling system for the new section was delivered by Thales - ESTW L90 5, a class-B Interlocking with optical signals. The scope included necessary modifications on the Ebilock-950 Interlocking from Bombardier on the existing Sande part of the line. Site management signalling JBT-91 Ski station


First contract including signalling works for the Norwegian part of the Swedish company InfraNord AB after establishing business in Norway. As the company had no signalling personnel certified in Norway; ProRail AS was contracted for site management of the signalling part of the project; installation activities inside the technical building and installation check out and function control of the NSI-63 relay interlocking at Ski station on the Østfoldbanen line. The modifications of Ski station were done during several shutdowns and commissioning's. The project also included establishment of a new shunting area/ depot area for commuter trains starting and ending at Ski station.

Quality control and update of app. 2.800 signalling drawings for the Oslo Central station central interlocking; including surrounding areas like Skøyen; Nationaltheateret; the Oslo tunnel; Lodalen and Loenga. A lot of construction work in the area during the last years; had produced several as-built versions of the documentation and scope of work was to achieve released ("FDV")-status on all documentation. Comprised both the NSB-77 relay interlocking and trackside objects. Also new relay tables and cross connection register for internal cables was made. The scope also included delivery of baseline documentation for ongoing projects.
